Examples of Clyde Sea Recovery Callouts
- Called out to evacuate 4 crew members from a boat which was on fire in the Holy Loch. The fire was onboard and old tug which had recently been sold and was preparing to be taken to North Wales. The fire was eventually extingushed and we took the crew ashore for a check up by the local paramedics.

- Called out to assist a charter yacht that had caught a mooring pickup rope round their propeller. Left Holy Loch Marina with a diver onboard and arrived in Tighnabruaich at around 1245. We took longer than normal because it was pretty rough going down the Dunoon shore. Wind was from the south gusting 25-30kts at times.
When we arrived Chris dove down, sorted it no problem and cut the rope free. They proceeded on their way to Portavadie and we returned to Holy Loch Marina.
- Called out to a non member en route back from Rhu Marina which had run out of fuel and the main halyard had failed causing the main sail to fall onto the deck. Towed them into Holy Loch Marina. Both crew members were very sea sick.
- Called out to a boat which had broken down just outside Holy Loch Marina. Transferred our jump start kit onboard the boat and tried to jump start it but it turns out the cells in the boats battery were damaged. Towed them back into Holy Loch Marina.
- Called out to a boat that had caught a mooring line and it was snagged on his prop shaft. Managed to untangle it from our rib and he proceeded on his way to Campbeltown.
- Called out to a motor boat that had just had their engine serviced and had broken down 1 mile West of Wemyss Bay. The weather was pretty bad at the time and the sea state was rough in the main channel and gusting 35 knots. The boat was drifting towards Cumbrae at about 3 knots and when we reached them they were about 0.28 nautical miles from land and pretty happy to see us. We took them under tow and towed them into Kip marina. Engineers were called and problem rectified.
- Called out to a yacht that was in Saddell Bay on the east side of Kintyre with a broken mast. When we arrived on scene we transferred a crew member onto the yacht to tidy up the halyards before securing a tow line back onto the Clyde Sea Recovery rib. We took the 2 crew members off the yacht onboard because the sea state was moderate to rough at the time and it was far more comfortable for them to be on the rib than the yacht. We towed them down into Campbeltown where we maneuvered them onto a visitor's pontoon. We departed Campbeltown at 2150 and arrived back at the Holy Loch Marina at 2330.
- Called out at 1636 today to a boat in Kames Bay, Millport with a flat battery. Arrived on scene 48 mins after the initial call and transferred our spare battery and a set of jump leads onboard. Got both the Port and Starboard engines started, and they proceeded on their way to Kip Marina. Motored next to them until Largs to make sure they were ok and then returned to Holy Loch Marina.
- Called out to a yacht which was en route from Holy Loch Marina to Inverkip Marina. They got as far as the Cloch Lighthouse and the engine failed. The skipper managed to get it going again but it cut out again not long after. The wind was gusting 30kts from the South and the skipper decided it was too windy to use his sails as he was onboard alone. We were on scene within 30 mins and took him under tow back to the Holy Loch and put them back on their mooring.
- Called out by HM Coastguard to assist Western Ferries with a motor boat they had picked up between McInroys Point and Hunters Quay. The boat had broken its mooring at Kilcreggan and was drifting towards Dunoon when they spotted it. The wind was from the East and was gusting 15 knots. We took it under tow to the Holy Loch Marina where the owner is going to pick it up tomorrow.
